Rachael Cavosie
Rachael entered our world on a cold winter day, January 9, 1988. As cold as the day was, she warmed our hearts and changed our lives forever. Although Rachael was only with us just shy of 31 years, the memories we have of her will last a lifetime.
The daughter of Michael and Jeannine Cavosie, Rachael later became the big sister, friend and mentor to her younger siblings, Maeghan, Drew and Aidan. She was the granddaughter of Brian (late) and Kathleen McKenna and Bob and Anne Cavosie. Rachael also had many aunts, uncles and cousins. Family was important to Rachael and she looked forward to all the family get togethers. Whatever the occasion was, you could count on Rachael showing up with a big smile on her face.
Rachael was caring, outgoing, determined, and spoke what was on her mind. She was curious about the world around her and absorbed everything like a sponge. Rachael could read anything and share the information she learned as if she was an expert on the topic leading to deep meaningful conversations with friends and family. These attributes contributed to Rachael’s success and making lifelong friends wherever she went.
Rachael attended St Mary’s school in Waterford from nursery school through 6th grade, then Catholic Central High School in Troy, graduating in 2006. Throughout childhood and high school Rachael participated and excelled in CYO, AAU and high school basketball as well as CDYSL and high school soccer. In 10th grade, Rachael joined the track and field team as shot put thrower and was named NYS champion in 2006. Rachael’s success as a goalie earned her the title of Class A all-state goalie and a soccer scholarship to University at Buffalo. Years later, in 2018, Rachael’s outstanding performance in high school sports culminated by being inducted into the Catholic Central Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 2007, Rachael enrolled in HVCC and graduated in 2009 with an A.A.S. degree in Dental Hygiene. She was employed by Aspen Dental and then by Professional Dental Staffing Inc., In her spare time, she also worked at the Beer Diviner, in Berlin, NY, where she easily became a friend to everyone.
As an adult, Rachael was spiritual. Seeking inner peace, she traveled to Quebec to study Reiki and India on an ashram pilgrimage. She volunteered at Kripalu YHC in Stockbridge, MA and the Peace Pagoda in Grafton, NY.
Rachael’s continued devotion to and love of sports led her to refereeing for soccer, basketball and lacrosse games at elementary and high school level. This allowed Rachael to share her knowledge and passion for sports with young athletes.
Rachael left our world on a warm fall day, October 6, 2018, breaking our hearts and again changing our lives forever, We will always remember Rachael’s beautiful smile, her larger than life personality and her love for others.
