Matthew Coons

Matthew William Coons Matthew was a tall, blond haired, blue eyed, muscular, loving man. He was a good soul who was born with a gift of love. A gift he shared with those who were deserving and lucky enough to be his friends. He will be greatly missed by all. May his Spirit still be felt by all who have known and loved him. May we all learn to be like Matthew by learning to share and live in a world of love, giving, and helping. A world of hope for justice and kindness – Matthews heart.

Born on January 24, 1991 in Fonda, NY Matthew was the son of Timothy and Jill Coons and the proud middle sibling to Bradley and Ashleigh Coons and Jacob Richardson.

Matthew attended both Fonda Fultonville and Johnstown Central School Districts where he was a good student who enjoyed history and was also very athletic participating in school sports playing both baseball and football. He was a man of conviction and loved researched. He stood by his word and backed up everything by researching. Matthew enlisted in the U.S. Army and graduated from basic training in Ft. Benning Georgia. He excelled in combat and marksmanship and was in the infantry and was stationed at Ft. Bliss, El Paso Texas.

Matthew was very committed to his family and came home to help when there were immediate family concerns.

Matthew and his brother Brad were religious about their time at the gym and most of their bonding was done there. They were both in the Army at the same time. Brothers in arms and in the gym. Brad misses Matthew and has had extensive tattoo work done in honor of Matthew reflecting his love and loss.

No brother and sister were closer than Ashleigh and Matthew. They not only looked alike, but they lived together with Ashleighs 2 daughters Jordyn and Quinn as well as Matthews girlfriend Savannah. They were a family. Ashleigh has taken his passing so hard as has her youngest daughter Quinn. They have kept Matthews dog Bane and have vowed to keep him which means finding a new home for Ashleigh and the girls very difficult with this big ol’ pit bull.

Matthews youngest brother Jacob really has taken a huge hit in the passing of Matt. Jacob looked up to Matthew for advice when needed. He often looked to him as a Father figure he has said after Matthews death. Jacob attended Herkimer college at the time of the accident and it has been difficult for him to focus on studies. Matt and Jacob both enjoyed gaming and Jacob has Matts basketball passion too. Matthews love for his siblings has left them all with much hurt and sadness as they too all loved Matthew as much.

Matthews Mom will never forget her wedding day when Matthew danced with her and through a smile and tears, Matt shared with her how he was happy that she had found love. He was happy that Peter made her so happy and that is all Matt ever wanted for her. That is how Matthew was.

Matthews career experiences consisted of Security Guards, Sales, and Skilled Labor. He was a Color Matcher for leather at Townsend Leather. He worked at GNC which went well with his passion for fitness. He was a Security Guard at Fage’ Yogurt Industries. He was a Carpenter for Perez Contracting (his step-fathers business) and lastly he was proud to be a Supervising Laborer for Construction and Demolition at Greenscapes.

Matthews passion was nutrition, weight lifting, and body building. Everyday he could be found in one of the many gyms he was a member of where he was either working out with his brother, his girlfriend Savannah, his friends or training a new enthusiast. He was determined to reach his goals and to help others with theirs. He loved helping people and sharing his passion made him the happiest.

The love of Matthews life was his beautiful girlfriend Savannah Bursese who also sadly left this world by his side. Matthew and Savannah enjoyed hiking and many outdoor activities and mostly their dearly loved dogs.

Matthew loved the holidays and he loved tradition. Holidays were spent with both his and Savannahs families experiencing both families traditions and meals with love and joy. He was know to expect a few of his favorite family recipes too.

If you were a true friend of Matthews, you were family. The tales of Matthew and how he has helped people over and over again are endless and told by anyone who has ever known him. His heart was huge. He was his Mothers “Matty Moose”. He gave his all to everyone. He believed in justice. He believed in people, goodness, and surrounded himself with good people and good friends -like those that were celebrating the day he lost his life. All good friends being smart and safe and celebrating the life of a friend on her birthday. His friends were considered by him to be his family and they called each 0th.er “brothers”. His friends remain part of Matts family today as they continue to check in on his Mother and Sister still.
Matthew is loved still and missed immensely.

The world has lost a good man. We will never know the potential of this amazing man and his heart, soul, and strength. We will think of him everyday with love.
